Utah State has received a verbal commitment from byu quarterback McCae Hillstead. Hillstead is 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, and will join the Aggies in time for spring ball and have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hillstead saw action in 4 games for the cougars in 2025, completing 4 passes in 5 attempts (80.0%) for 33 yards. He also added 5 carries for 28 yards. As many of you will remember, Hillstead saw extensive action for the Aggies as a true freshman in 2023. He completed 94 passes in 158 attempts (59.5%) for 1,062 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions and took 44 carries for 36 yards.
According to On3 Sports, Hillstead is rated as the 1719th-best transfer portal player nationally and the 118th-best quarterback. Hillstead chose the Aggies just days after making an official visit to the Utah State campus on Monday.
Following the December 3rd early signing period, Hillstead becomes the fifth transfer portal commitment and the twenty-fourth signing/commitment for the Aggies recruiting class of 2026, joining Bishop Gorman HS (NV) wide receiver Kaina Watson, New Mexico State defensive tackle Ta’avili Tuitama, University of Saint Thomas (MN) EDGE rush defensive end Jordan Pendleton, Wyoming cornerback Markie Grant and Oklahoma State University safety David “DK” Kabongo as post-early signing period additions.
