Obviously, we haven’t done very well on quality of recruiting and retention. I think it’s an interesting list and give some perspectives.
My second thought is that there’s something wrong with the count. You have 34 scholarship players, which wouldn’t have been allowed in 2019 and 13 preferred walkons which in my mind don’t matter unless they received a scholarship while at Utah State.
Thanks for stopping by to check things out Todd!
While your count his correct, I can help you account for the “numbers” issue. Terin Adams, Josh Bowcutt, Sean Carter, Nick Heninger, Sioasi Mariner, Enoch Nawahine, and Caleb Repp were all “push forwards”, meaning they were all on the 2019 squad and essentially memebers of the 2019 recuiting class BUT did not count against the scholarship numbers until the class of 2020. That takes us from 34 down to 27.
Sonny Makasini and Kyle Van Leeuwen both went on LDS Church missions. While I did count them as the signing class of 2019, they did not officially count toward the final scholarship number of 25. That takes us from 27 down to 25.
Derek Wright BEGAN his career in 2019 as a walk-on at Utah State. He was awarded a scholarship later. Me ommitting that Derek joined the Aggies as a preferred walk-on in 2019 could be a tad misleading. BUT that would take us from 25 to 24 and NCAA compliant with scholarships given.
I hope that makes a little sense of my list! THANK YOU for keeping me my toes Todd!!
Thanks for the explanation Brian. You have great recruiting info. Now if we can just find a way to retain our best players.
Anytime Todd! Come back often!
Surprising how many of these players quit football – it’s a demanding sport.
It sure is Mark! It’s often a huge life adjustment not only on the field but ALSO off the field and in the classroom as well.
