Utah State has added University of Oregon cornerback Avante Dickerson to the roster. At press time it is unclear if Dickerson made an official visit to campus. Dickerson is a 6-foot-0 173-pound redshirt sophomore, who will join the Aggies in time for fall camp. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining. During his two seasons at Oregon, Dickerson played in 13 games and was credited with five tackles. He did sit out the 2022 season while redshirting. According to 247sports, coming out of Westside High (NE), Dickerson was rated as the 122nd-best player in the country, the 8th-best cornerback in the country, and the number one high school player in the State of Nebraska. He originally received offers from Akron, Arkansas, Baylor, Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio St, Oregon, Penn St, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, and Virginia. Dickerson becomes the highest-rated player that has ever put on an Aggie uniform. He is the eighth transfer portal signing of the offseason, joining former Arizona State offensive tackle Ralph Frias, former Colorado cornerback Simeon Harris, former Bowling Green EDGE rush end Blaine Spires, former Wisconsin cornerback Al Ashford, former Oregon defensive tackle Sir Mells, former byu linebacker Logan Pili, and former Central Florida cornerback Jaiden Francois. With so many new defensive backs joining the Aggies for 2023, I expect Dickerson to compete for a major role immediately.
