Utah State picked up a re-commitment Monday afternoon from Olympus High (UT) point guard Jordy Barnes. Barnes had previously committed to the Aggies under former Head Coach Ryan Odom in September of 2022 but backed off that commitment on June 20th of 2023 in order to explore his options, while also getting a feel for new Aggies Head Coach Danny Sprinkle and his coaching staff. Barnes is a 6 foot 3 160-pound senior and will join the Aggies for the 2024 season. Barnes is also the son of legendary Olympus hoops coach and former Aggie shooting guard Matt Barnes. As a junior last season, Barnes averaged 13.4 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field, 34 percent from three-point range, and 74 percent from the free throw stripe. He also averaged 6.4 rebounds, and a whopping 9.0 assists, and displayed quickness and anticipation by averaging 3.5 steals per game. At the time of his commitment, Barnes held offers from Southern Utah and Vermont. Barnes is a member of the Utah Prospects AAU basketball program. He is the third commitment for the class of 2024 for the Aggies, joining Lapwai High (ID) WING Kase Wynott and Roosevelt High (OR) point guard Terrence Hill Jr.
