Utah State picked up a verbal commitment today from University of Iowa transfer quarterback Spencer Petras. Petras is a 6-foot-5 231 graduate senior who is entering his final season of eligibility. He played in 37 career games with 31 starts as a Hawkeye and compiled a 20 and 11 record. Throughout his six-year career at Iowa, Petras completed 468 of 825 (56.7%) passes for 5,199 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. He suffered a shoulder injury near the end of the 2022 season that kept him out of the entire 2023 season. According to 247sports coming out of Marin Catholic High (CA), he was rated as the 421st-best player nationally, the 19th-best quarterback, and the 50th-best prospect overall in California. He will be joining the Aggies for the 2024 season and enrolling at Utah State in January. Petras originally held offers from California, Colorado State, Cornell, Fresno State, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisville, Nevada, Oregon State, San Deigo State, San Jose State, Syracuse, UNLV, and Wyoming.
