Utah State picked up a verbal commitment this afternoon from former Arizona State linebacker Will Shaffer. Shaffer is a 6-foot-0 235-pound sophomore who has two years of eligibility remaining. During his three-year career at Arizona State, Shaffer accumulated 26 tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss, 1 pass breakup, and blocked a kick in 28 games. According to 247sports coming out of Saguaro High (AZ), he was rated as the 926th-best player nationally, the 23rd-best linebacker, and the 15th-best player in the state of Arizona. He will be joining the Aggies for the 2024 season and sign his letter of intent during the early signing period that begins December 20th. It is currently unclear what transfer portal offers Shaffer held at the time of his commitment. His original offers out of high school consisted of Arizona, Arizona State, Air Force, Memphis, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Texas State, UTEP, and Washington State. Shaffer is the fifth transfer portal addition and the seventeenth commitment overall for the Aggies 2024 recruiting cycle, joining university of utah linebacker Jadon Pearson, former University of Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras, former University of Pittsburgh offensive lineman Trey Andersen, and former Baylor University offensive lineman George Maile, and junior college players Hutchinson CC (KS) cornerback Mason Edwards, Bulter CC (KS) EDGE rush end Marlin Dean, Golden West CC (CA) safety Terrell Taylor, Golden West CC (CA) safety Marquis Brown, East Central CC (MS) cornerback EJ Fisk, and Navarro CC (TX) offensive lineman Jared Pele, and high school commits Casteel High (AZ) offensive lineman Camden Jury, Helix High (CA) quarterback Ryland Jessee, Lehi High (UT) tight end Grayson Brousseau, Corner Canyon High (UT) wide receiver Tate Kjar, Mater Dei High (CA) linebacker Tanner Williams, and Mountain Ridge High (UT) offensive lineman Adam Hawkes.
