Utah State picked up a verbal commitment this morning from former Oregon State University shooting guard Dexter Akanno. Akanno is a 6-foot-5 210-pound COVID senior who has one season of eligibility remaining. He will join the Aggies for the 2024-25 season. Akanno committed to the Aggies just days after spending his official visit on the Utah State campus on May 10th and 11th. According to 247sports Akanno was rated as the 387th-best transfer player nationally and the 93rd-best transfer portal WING in the country. After beginning his collegiate career by spending one season at Marquette University, Akanno transferred to Oregon State where he has spent the last three seasons. Akanno had the best season of his career last season for the Beavers as he averaged 10.9 points per game while shooting 39.0% from the field, 32.5% from behind the three-point line, and 70.4% at the free-throw stripe. He also pulled in 2.9 rebounds, handed out 1.3 assists, and swiped 0.9 steals per game. Akanno chose the Aggies over an offers from Santa Barbara, San Diego State, UNLV, and USC. Akanno is the sixth commitment of the Jerrod Calhoun era at Utah State joining Queens University of Charlotte combo guard Deyton Albury, Stetson University center Aubin Gateretse, Utah Valley University point guard Drake Allen, University of Central Arkansas WING Tucker Anderson, and Southern Utah University point guard Braden Housley.
