2024-25 OUTLOOK
AUBIN GATERETSE
Aubin Gateretse is a transfer from Stetson University who will enter the 2024-25 season as a senior and use his final season of eligibility with the Aggies. As a junior last season, Gateretse started in 33 of 35 games for the Hatters and averaged 11.6 points per game while shooting 71.2 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from behind the 3-point line and he shot 62.0 percent at the free-throw line. He averaged 7.6 boards, 0.8 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game.
During his three-year career at Stetson University, Gateretse started in 33 of 81 games and averaged 6.3 points per game. He shot 66.2 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 60.2 percent from the free-throw line. He also averaged 4.3 boards, 0.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks.
After entering the transfer portal, Gateretse chose the Aggies over offers from DePaul, Florida, George Washington, Nevada, Saint Joseph’s, Santa Barbara, and 40+ other offers.
Gateretse will be able to fill a critical need for the Aggies this season, scoring at the rim and in the low post. He has a nice hook shot that he can hit with deadly accuracy and he can shoot it with either hand. He has a soft touch around the basket and shoots a very high percentage from the floor. He won’t shoot it a bunch but he does seem to have the green light to shoot the 3-ball. He is mobile enough to run the floor with speed and can catch a pass and finish with an emphatic dunk. His rebounding is more than adequate and he can be a force not only on the defensive end but he will aggressively chase the offensive rebound as well. He blocks shots at a respectable rate and is athletic enough to make opposing players think twice about testing his rim protection skills.
ISAAC DAVIS
True freshman Isaac Davis will see the majority of the backup center minutes. As a senior at Hillcrest High School (ID) in 2023-24, he started in all 26 games for the Knights and averaged 16.1 points per game while shooting 67.0 percent from the floor, 28.0 percent from behind the 3-point line and he shot 68.0 percent at the free-throw line. He averaged 7.9 boards, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. For his outstanding effort, he was named the Post Register All-Area Player of the Year.
According to 247sports coming out of Hillcrest High (ID), Davis was rated as the 129th-best player nationally, the 26th-best power forward, and the number one prospect overall in Idaho. He chose the Aggies over offers from byu, Idaho State, Montana, Oklahoma, Portland, Southern Utah, UNLV, Virginia Commonwealth, and Washington State.
One of the first things that jumped out at me about Davis is his deceptively quick feet and a surprising level of athleticism. He has a high motor and doesn’t struggle to get out on the break, running the floor with ease. He can finish at the rim with a hammer dunk. He knows how to use his size and frame to create space in the low post. Once he gets positioning he has a soft touch around the rim to kiss the ball off the backboard. He can catch the ball in the post, turn, and hit a face-up jumper at a high percentage. I also think Davis will develop into a very viable threat to shoot the 3-ball. His shot is smooth and often effortless. He is beginning to get a feel for what it takes to rebound at this level and is in the process of learning how to track the ball in the air and use his size and strength to box out an opposing player. He will be an adequate passer out of the post and will find an open teammate once an opposing team double-teams him. Isaac Davis is a name Aggie Nation needs to become very familiar with.
