Utah State signed University of New Mexico cornerback DJ Mayes this morning. Mayes is a 6-foot-2 172-pound true freshman who will join the Aggies in time for spring ball. Mayes will enter spring ball as a redshirt freshman who has four years of eligibility remaining
In his only season with the Lobos Mayes sat out the season while utilizing his redshirt season. Two years as a high school senior at Syracuse High (UT), he hauled in 85 passes for 1,086 yards with 15 receiving touchdowns.
Mayes originally held offers from New Mexico and Utah Tech.
Mayes becomes the second transfer portal signing/commitment of the Bronco Mendenhall era here at Utah State and the fifth signing/commitment overall joining Snow JC (UT) safety Titan Saxton, Viewmont HS (UT) safety Ryan Tillman, Lehi HS (UT) cornerback Abe Jager, and New Mexico long snapper Hyrum Hatch.
