Utah State received a verbal commitment from University of New Mexico running back Javen Jacobs this morning. Jacobs is a 5-foot-10 195-pound sophomore who will join the Aggies in time for spring ball. Jacobs will enter spring ball as a junior, with two years of eligibility remaining.
In Jacobs only season with the Lobos, he saw action in 7 games, totaling 40 carries for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns. He caught 17 passes for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. He also returned 6 kicks for a 23.2-yard-per-return average.
According to 247sports coming out of Saguaro High (AZ), Jacobs was rated as the 1670th-best player nationally, the 127th-best athlete, and the 26th-best prospect overall in Arizona. Jacobs began his collegiate career by spending two seasons at Arizona State University. He originally held offers from Arizona State, Air Force, Army, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Portland State, and Yale. However, it appears that Utah State was his only transfer portal offer when he committed.
Jacobs becomes the sixth transfer portal signing/commitment of the Bronco Mendenhall era here at Utah State and the ninth signing/commitment overall joining Snow JC (UT) safety Titan Saxton, Viewmont HS (UT) safety Ryan Tillman, Lehi HS (UT) cornerback Abe Jager, New Mexico long snapper Hyrum Hatch, New Mexico cornerback DJ Mayes, New Mexico cornerback Bryson Taylor, Hampton long snapper Owen Edwards, and Utah Tech safety Brevin Hamblin.
Your article is incorrect. He was not a walk on. He was an early enrollee and that spring semester was the only semester that wasn’t on athletic scholarship. He was on scholarship starting Fall 2022 (his true freshman season).
Your article is incorrect. He was not a PWO. He graduated early and wanted to arrive on campus early but they couldn’t start his scholarship early. So his first semester was academic scholarship. His football scholarship was effective Fall 2022- his true freshman season. I’ll send you a copy of his scholarship paperwork to prove it.
No need Ms. Jacobs! I’ll make the adjustment to the article. I appreciate your info! Thank you for stopping by my website and welcome to Aggie Nation!!
Thank you so much Brian! We are happy to be part of the Aggie family!
