Utah State has received a verbal commitment from San Diego Mesa Community College (CA) cornerback John Shepard. Shepard is 6-foot-3 200 pounds and will enter spring ball as a junior, with three years to complete his final two seasons of eligibility.

In his final season with the Olympians, Shepard started in 9 games and was credited with 22 tackles, 1.0 tackles-for-loss, 3 interceptions one of which was returned for a touchdown, 7 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 blocked kick. He earned first-team and third-team all-American honors from a couple of national junior college publications. Shepard chose the Aggies over an offer from Olivet Nazarene.
