After a couple of days to digest the Aggies dropping their regular season finale with a heartbreaking 24-25 home loss to the boise State university broncos, I’m ready to hand out the game balls.
My offensive game ball will go to junior running back Javen Jacobs. Jacobs took on the role of the Aggies all-purpose back Friday night, toting the rock 5 times for 92 yards and a touchdown. Jacobs’ touchdown came on a 56-yard scamper to paydirt. Jacobs also hauled in 4 passes for 53 yards, with a long reception of 18 yards. For the season, Jacobs has logged 62 carries for 405 yards and 5 touchdowns, and pulled in 38 receptions for 333 yards and 2 more touchdowns.
My defensive game ball will go to senior cornerback Noah Avinger. Avinger. Avinger pulled down 8 solo tackles and 3 assists for a total of 11 tackles on the night. He also had a team-leading 2.5 tackles-for-loss, a team-leading 1.0 sack, 1 quarterback hurry, 1 pass breakup, and 1 fumble recovery. Avinger is now third on the team in total tackles with 84. He has also recorded 3.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.0 sack, 3 interceptions, 10 pass breakups, 1 quarterback hurries, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.
My special teams game ball will go to junior kicker Tanner Rinker. Rinker knocked down his lone field goal attempt on the night, connecting from 37yards out and hitting all three of his PATs. For the season, Rinker has connected on 13 of 17 field goal tries, with a long make of 49 yards. He has also hit 42 of 44 PAT attempts.
Ima miss Avinger massively. Ever since we got Bronco I wanted to get him so bad and the portal and he did not disappoint. What a player and what a year for him. Wish we had him for another one.
I hope we can utilize Jacobs more next year. He also has shown up and brought a great run game! Very excited to see what he can do next year.
