Utah State has signed university of utah safety Malone Mataele. At press time, it is unknown if Mataele has had an official visit to Logan. Matale is a 5 foot 11 184-pound senior and will join the Aggies in January and participate in spring football. He has one season of eligibility remaining. During his five seasons at utah he totaled 43 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, 1 interception, and 2 pass breakups. According to 247sports, coming out of Rancho Margarita High School (CA), Mataele was rated as the 17th-best all-purpose running back in the country and the 66th-best player in the State of California. His rating would rank him as the 3rd highest-rated recruit the Aggies have ever signed. He is the second transfer portal signing today and one of eighteen signings thus far for the Aggies 2023 recruiting cycle. Coming out of high school Mataele originally held offers from Arizona, Arizona State, byu, California, Colorado, Colorado State, Hawaii, San Jose State, Stanford, UCLA, utah, Virginia, and Washington State At the time of his signing, Mataele held offers from Akron and California.
