Utah State picked up a verbal commitment last night from Charter Oak High(CA) wide receiver Zakkarii Black. Black was in Logan on his official visit over the weekend of December 9th and chose to make his commitment official. Black is a 5 foot 9 140-pound senior and will join the Aggies for the 2023 season. Black had a solid season playing a dual role for the Chargers at both wide receiver and running back, snagging 33 receptions for 438 yards and 5 touchdowns and carrying the ball 110 times for 685 yards and 7 touchdowns. He transferred to Charter Oak for his senior season after beginning his high school career at Maranatha High (CA) in Pasadena. Black will fit into Offensive Coordinator Anthony Tucker’s plans as a slot receiver. He is the eighth high school commitment and the fifteenth commitment overall for the Aggies 2023 recruiting cycle. At the time of his commitment, Black held offers from Grambling State, Montana State, Morgan State, and Penn State. Black wrapped up his high school career for the 10 and 1 Chargers 21-31 loss to Yorba Linda High (CA) in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Playoffs. Black is expected to sign his LOI with the Aggies on Wednesday when the early signing period opens.
