Utah State has received a verbal commitment from Bowling Green University EDGE rush end Blaine Spires. Spires made his official visit to campus over the weekend of May 12th. Spires is a 6-foot-2 240-pound junior, who will join the Aggies in June for summer workouts. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. During his four seasons at Bowling Green, Spires played in 30 games and recorded 66 tackles, 10.0 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 pass breakup, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. According to 247sports, coming out of East High (OH), Spires was rated as the 229th-best defensive tackle in the country, and the 129th-best high school player in the State of Ohio. He is the third transfer portal signing of the offseason, joining former Arizona State offensive tackle Ralph Frias and former Colorado cornerback Simeon Harris. At the time of his commitment, Spires had received offers from Austin Peay, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, Jackson State, Southern Illinois, and Mississippi Valley State. I expect Spires to come in and compete immediately at the EDGE rush-end position.
