Utah State has received a verbal commitment from University of Wisconsin cornerback Al Ashford. Ashford made his official visit to campus over the weekend of May 12th. Ashford is a 6-foot-1 180-pound sophomore, who will join the Aggies in June for summer workouts. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining. During his two seasons at Wisconsin, Ashford spent one season as a redshirt and played in 4 games as a redshirt freshman but did not record any stats before he suffered a season-ending injury. According to 247sports, coming out of Cherry Creek High (CO), Ashford was rated as the 952nd-best player in the country, the 79th-best cornerback in the country, and the 9th-best high school player in the State of Colorado. He is the fourth transfer portal signing of the offseason, joining former Arizona State offensive tackle Ralph Frias, former Colorado cornerback Simeon Harris, and former Bowling Green EDGE rush end Blaine Spires. At the time of his commitment, Ashford had received offers from Kent State and Northern Colorado. Coming out of Cherry Creek High, Ashford originally had a slew of offers from Arizona, Army, boise state, Colgate, Colorado, Colorado State, Connecticut, Eastern Michigan, Idaho, Kansas, Kansas State, Lehigh, Nevada, Oregon State, South Dakota, UNLV, Washington State, and Wyoming. I expect Ashford to see the field sooner than later and should compete for a starting role by 2024.
