Prior Season Results and Predictions:
- Record: 9-23 overall, 2-16 conference
- My Prediction: Between 8th-11th in the conference
- Summary: SJSU finished tied for 10th in conference after a surprise season the prior year. The trio of Myron Amey, Alvaro Cardenas and Tibet Govenor were enough to make them competitive in the league. Before the season began SJSU lost their best big man in Robert Vaihola and it showed throughout the year.
- All Conference Players/Other Awards: Myron Amey (All MWC – Honorable Mention)
Metrics for the last 5 Seasons:
- Conference Regular Season Winning %: 21.6% (ranked 10th in conference)
- Conference Regular Season Champion: 0 (Tied for 4th in the conference)
- Conference Tournament Champion: 0 (Tied for 5th in the conference)
- NCAA Tournament Appearances: 0 (Tied for 8th in the conference)
- NCAA Tournament Wins: 0 (Tied for 4th in the conference)
2024-2025 Season Review:
Conference Prediction: #8 in the Mountain West
Overview: SJSU lost their top 3 contributors from last year. However, they do return big man Robert Vaihola (who was injured last year, and I expect him to be a big contributor this year), starting center Adrame Diongue and freshman guard contributor Latrell Davis.
They also had a nice transfer/signing class. They signed 6th man of the year of the MW in Josh Uduje, Sadaidriene Hall (previously a 2nd team WAC guy), Will McClendon (UCLA transfer guard) and Donovan Yap (Transfer from Fresno).
Production Returning: Scoring 15% (returning), Rebounding 25%, Assists 10%, Blocks 45%, Minutes 16%
Key losses: Myron Amey (Transfer to LMU), Alvaro Cardenas (Transfer to Boise), Tibet Gorenor (Transfer to SMU) and Trey Anderson (Graduation)
Key Returners: Adrame Diongue (starting center), Latrell Davis (freshman guard who averaged 6 ppg), Robert Vaihola (injured last year, averaged close to a double/double in the prior year)
Newcomers:
- Donavon Yap: Part time starter at Fresno, Guard/Wing averaged 9 ppg last season.
- Will McClendon: Transfer from UCLA, 6’2″ guard. Averaged 3 ppg and 1 assist last season. Top 50 high school recruit.
- Sadaidriene Hall: 6’5″ wing transfer from Stephen F. Austin. Multi-year double digit scorer.
- Cameron Patterson: 3-star guard, 6’5″ freshman.
- Josh Uduje: Averaged 9 ppg at Utah State, was Co-MW 6th man of the year.
- Ben Roseborough: High 3-star 6’4″ freshman guard.
- Jermaine Washington: Freshman PG, not highly recruited.
- Chol Marial: Part time center starter at Oregon State. Averaged 3 ppg and 3 rebounds
- Sadraque NgaNga: Transferring from Seton Hall, played in 19 games. Started career at Boise and was highest rated recruit ever to sign at Boise.
Strongest Position: Guard/Wing: Between Uduje, Hall, Yap and Latrell Davis they will have starters who can compete in the MW as well as solid bench guys
Biggest Question Mark(s): Does Will McClendon have the ability step up as a starting pg and who will be his back up? Can NgaNga finally live up to his hype and be a solid back up at the 4 position?
Projected Starters: Will McClendon (Guard), Josh Uduje (Guard), Sadaidriene Hall (Wing), Robert Vaihola (Forward), Adrame Diongue (Center)
Bench: Latrell Davis (Guard), Ben Roseborough (Guard), Donavon Yap (Wing), Sadraque NgaNga (Forward), Chol Marial (Center)
Potential All Conference Guys: Josh Uduje, Sadaidriene Hall, Robert Vaihola
Key Non-Conference Games: Hawaii (Away), UCSB (Home), USC (Road)
