This is the 13th article in a series previewing each team and position rankings in the Mountain West leading up to the 2024-2025 basketball season.  This a review of the top 5 power forwards in the Mountain West.

Top 5 Power Forwards:

  1. Tyson Degenhart (Boise State, Senior):  Degenhart was voted as Preseason MW Player of the Year coming into this season.  Degenhart has led the Broncos the last 2 years and that will not change this year.   Degenhart was 1st team All MW last year after averaging 17 ppg and 6 rebounds.
  2. Nick Davidson (Nevada, Junior):  Davidson production nearly doubled from his freshman to sophomore year as he averaged 12 ppg and 7 rebounds per game which landed him on the 3rd team All MW.  Davidson has great size at 6’10” which pairs well with his knack of being around the ball.  Offensively he can post you up but also can step out and hit the 3.
  3. O’Mar Stanley (Boise State, Senior):  In his first year in Boise after transferring from St Johns, Stanley averaged 13 ppg and 7 rebounds per game.  He and Degenhart make up one of the better tandems in the league.
  4. Jalen Hill (UNLV, Senior):  After playing 10 games last year, Hill had a season ending injury.  Prior to his season ending injury, he was averaging 11 ppg.  Prior to last year, he transferred from Oklahoma where he averaged 10 ppg and 6 rebounds per game in 22-23 season.
  5. Touko Tainamo (Wyoming, Senior):  Tainamo has a great chance to be the best player for Wyoming.  He transfers from Denver where he averaged 15 ppg and 8 rebounds per game.  The Finnish native made 35 3 pointers for Denver last year.

Next 5 Up: Jared Coleman Jones (San Diego State), Isaac Johnson (Utah State), Robert Vaihola (San Jose State), Robert Whaley (UNLV), Jaylen Crocker Johnson (Colorado State)
