This is the 14th article in a series previewing each team and position rankings in the Mountain West leading up to the 2024-2025 basketball season.

This a review of the top 5 small forward/wings in the Mountain West.

Top 5 Small Forwards/Wings:

  1. Nique Clifford (Colorado State, Senior):  After exploring draft options last spring, Clifford returns to Colorado State for his final season.  In his first season at Fort Collins last year, Clifford was named All MW 3rd team after averaging 12 ppg and 8 rebounds.  The former University of Colorado player will be the top player for the Rams this year.
  2. Reese Waters (San Diego State, Senior):  The former PAC 12 6th man of the year had a solid 1st year at SDSU averaging just under double digit points.  Playing more of a support role last year, Waters will be looked to lead the Aztecs this year.  Unfortunately, he recently suffered an injury that will cause him to miss the first 6-8 weeks of the year.
  3. Tre Coleman (Nevada, Senior):  The two time All MW Defensive team selection looks to be the best defender in the MW this year.  Coleman can guard positions 1-4 and can also be effective offensively averaging 9 ppg last year.
  4. Dexter Akanno (Utah State, Senior):  The Oregon State transfer will fill the Josh Uduje role this year for the Aggies.  Akanno comes to Utah State after averaging 11 ppg last year and starting the majority of the year in the PAC 12.
  5. Jaden Henley (UNLV, Junior):  Henley transfers to UNLV from DePaul where he averaged 9 ppg in 2023-2024.  The rising Junior has excellent length at 6’7″ and will look to continue to develop his game in 2024-2025.

Next 5 Up: Miles Byrd (San Diego State), Sadaidriene Hall (San Jose State), Ethan Morton (Colorado State), Jordan Nesbitt (Wyoming), Javan Buchanon (Boise State)
